Data Product Builder

Full-time Part-time

Ministry: Power to Change - Students

Location: Guelph, ON or Remote

Reports to: Lead Data Storyteller

Position type: Full Time or Part Time, Permanent

Funding: Ministry Partner Development

Ministry Overview

Power to Change - Students (P2C - Students) wants every student walking closer to Jesus and experiencing life in him. Our mission is to help students take their next step towards Jesus.

As the Strategy & Operations (S&O) Department within P2C-S, we empower communities on mission within P2C-S to clearly define and collaboratively reach our goals by designing, building, and managing tools and systems.

Position Overview

The Data Product Builder builds the dashboards, data pipelines, and integrations that help P2C-S leaders see and act on their ministry data — taking a defined scope from start to a running, trusted product. The Lead Data Storyteller defines what "done" looks like; you take it from there and report back.

Primary Outcomes (About the role)

In this role, you will be responsible to achieve the following objectives (or outcomes):

  • Build and ship data products—pipelines, dashboards, integrations—within the agreed scope and timeline.

  • Build in enough monitoring that failures surface quickly. Collaborate with the Data Systems Architect on which systems to use.

  • Participate in design conversations, usability walkthroughs, and documentation—bringing a builder's perspective and acting on what you hear back.

Other Responsibilities

  • Regular attendance at P2C / S&O team meetings, all-staff gatherings, and team retreats.

  • Participation in Ministry Partner Development activities:  partner communication, donor stewardship, MPD training and coaching.

  • Other responsibilities and projects as required.

Experience Requirements

  • Some hands-on experience with SQL or a data tool—coursework, a co-op, or a personal project counts.

  • Some experience explaining technical work to non-technical people, in any context.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Essential Character

    • Clear written and verbal communication—you explain technical decisions to non-technical people without losing them.

    • A track record of teaching yourself new skills and closing your own knowledge gaps.

    • A bias toward shipping useful things over perfect ones, and the energy to push them through to a running, trusted state.

    • Genuine curiosity about the ministry context you're building for—not just the data layer.

    • A growing personal relationship with Jesus, and willingness to articulate it in the context of your work.

    • Alignment with Power to Change's statement of faith and ministry expectations for paid staff.

  • Technical (Willingness to learn is most important. All of the following are highly desirable but not critical.)

    • Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g. Python).

    • Experience with version control (Git).

    • Working comfort with AI-assisted coding tools and an evolving sense of when they help and when they hurt.

    • Spreadsheet competency.
